Overwatch 2 is launching on Steam, with more Blizzard games to come

Overwatch 2 is coming to Steam on August 10 abilities

If you’re a PC player, you’ll know that you need to download Battle.net to play any Blizzard game. However, Overwatch 2 will no longer be locked behind Battle.net as it is set to release on Steam.

The announcement certainly came as a surprise, but this move is a step towards greater gaming accessibility.

Overwatch 2 will launch on Steam and that’s just the beginning

In a statement, Blizzard had this to say: “as Blizzard evolves as a studio, inside and out, one of the ideas pushing us forward is meeting players around the world where they are and making our games as easy as possible to access and play. We want to give everyone a chance to experience our universes with old friends while making new ones, no matter how they choose to play.”

According to Valve’s President, Gabe Newell, “gamers and developers are both going to benefit from Overwatch 2 coming to Steam.” The capacity of Steam is expected to improve the “supported features and functionality for Overwatch 2.”

That’s not all, Overwatch 2 won’t be the only Blizzard game making its way to the platform as the plan is to bring “a selection of [Blizzard] games to Steam, starting with Overwatch 2.” For now, we can only speculate what those could be.

Overwatch 2 is coming to Steam on August 10 combat

The Steam page is already up, so you can add the game to your wishlist. However, the game won’t unlock on Steam until August 10, 2023.
