SCS calls on American Truck Simulator community to help build new game mode

SCS is calling on the community to lend a hand with helping the team build a new feature. This exciting prospect centres around the new Road Trip functionality that the team is working on. Road Trip is set to expand the horizons of American Truck Simulator by finally giving players the opportunity to roam around the gorgeous virtual world in a set of more traditional wheels. Herein lies the team’s request: got a car the team can use for audio recording?

From wheels to WAV files

SCS breaks down the scope of this aspect of the project in a blog post. In short, the team is looking to borrow specific vehicles, all of different makes and models, to record the sounds of their engines, gearbox, and exhaust, among other aspects.

Any player of American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 knows that SCS pays keen attention to detail, especially when it comes to vehicle attributes. Both titles even got an upgrade to their soundscape and overall audio complexity a few years ago.

As for building out the database for the new Road Trip game mode, SCS is specifically looking for unmodified vehicles that include classics like the 1967 Ford Mustang (specifically with the 390 Thunderbird Special V8) and 1970 Dodge Charger (specifically with the 426 Hemi V8,) to more modern options like the 2024 Toyota Tundra and 2024 Nissan Frontier.

The full list of applicable vehicles is up on SCS’ aforementioned blog.

The team promises that any cars submitted will be treated with the utmost care, as they fully understand how precious these vehicles are to their owners (especially the classics, no doubt!)

Road Trip in American Truck Simulator is clearly still early in the development stage, so it should come as no surprise that there’s currently no release window. SCS only officially revealed it just earlier this month, along with a few CAD renders to show off as a bit of a ‘first look’ at the project’s contents.
