Xbox is keeping their commitment to bringing its library of games to other consoles, demonstrated by the fact that Forza is about to hit PlayStation for the very first time. However, before PS5 owners go on an adrenaline-fuelled journey, a Microsoft account is required to play Forza Horizon 5.
Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation has Performance (60fps) and Quality (30fps) rendering modes on both the standard PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro. On PS5 Pro, the Quality mode adds ray traced car reflections to races and free roam, while Performance mode focuses on improving rendering performance, with higher fidelity graphics at 60fps. The racer is even compatible with the PlayStation Portal if streamed from your console using local Remote Play.

In an FAQ on the Forza Horizon support webpage, it is confirmed that “in addition to a PSN account, you’ll need to link to a Microsoft account in order to play Forza Horizon 5 on PS5.”
Upon launching the game on PlayStation, you will be asked to sign-in with your Microsoft account, sometimes referred to as the Xbox Live services that are a part of your Microsoft account. From here, it is expected that you will be able to link your Microsoft account to the PlayStation Network account you are currently logged into on your PlayStation console.
This isn’t the first time a Microsoft account has been required to play an Xbox exclusive that has jumped ship to its rival console. Sea of Thieves is just one example where a Microsoft account is required to sail the seas on PlayStation.
Also, all achievements that are on the Xbox and Steam versions of Forza Horizon 5 can be earned as Trophies when playing the game on PlayStation 5. A Platinum Trophy will be available to those who are able to tick all the achievements off the list.
Hit the tracks of Forza Horizon 5 early starting April 25 by pre-ordering the Premium Edition, while the release date for all editions is April 29, 2025.
