As Call of Duty: Warzone continues to evolve, new maps are dropped periodically. When it comes to Resurgence, the battle royale has seen various small scale, action-packed maps over the years. Area 99 is the latest map to join the Resurgence rotation, inspired by the multiplayer map, Nuketown. Now, Area 99 specifically has received an update to its player count, loading less players into the battlefield.
Since its launch in 2020, Warzone has significantly evolved. From integration when it comes to the loot pool, various map changes due to in-game events, and limited-time modes, the game continues to make strides in the battle royale genre.
Area 99 player count is shrinking
The Call of Duty Updates X account announced the shift in player count. Here are the updated player counts in every Area 99 playlist:
- Quads: 44 to 40
- Trios: 45 to 42
- Duos: 44 to 40
- Solos: 45 to 40
The move is certainly surprising, considering how little teams are usually left during the latter moments of an Area 99 match. So far, the community hasn’t responded positively to the news, but we will have to see just how this plays out.
The team has made this decision after reviewing internal data. However, the latest Resurgence map has only been around for less than two weeks, releasing with Black Ops 6 Season 1 on November 14.
The new Area 99 player count isn’t significantly different to what players are used to, but only time will tell if the developers will make further adjustments as they continue to collect data.
