The wait is over for the launch of Farming Simulator 25. Giants Software’s long-running cash cow of a franchise ushers in a new generation, with this being a current-gen only release on console. With the sheer array of new features and graphical upgrades, there’s a lot to dive into.
“It’s your time to grow”
Farming Simulator 25 brings with it a variety of new equipment, crops, a never-before-featured region in the series—East Asia, along with new gameplay elements and tools.
For instance, there’s now a GPS-based steering assistant; a feature that was previously only accessible through the use of mods. The very handy AI workers have also been given an upgrade to make them even more useful. Ground deformation is another notable feature—one that’s been requested by the community for quite some time.
A reworked weather system is also on display, with the ability to generate more complex conditions such as intense tornadoes and rainstorms. Animal husbandry is now a more fulfilling experience with there being not just more animal species, but baby animals are now a part of the experience (cute!)
Production chains and factories that were introduced in Farming Simulator 22 make a return here in FS25, along with other elements such as construction projects and community monuments. As for the new crops you’ll be able to plant and harvest, that includes two types of rice, spinach, peas, and green beans.
Tractor driver’s ed
To (almost) go alongside the release of the new sim, popular peripheral-maker, Thrustmaster, is releasing a new joystick that has been purpose-built for use with Farming Simulator 25.
Dubbed the SimTask Farmstick, it features buttons and switches that will make controlling tractors and other machinery a little easier, along with all the face buttons from the Xbox Series controllers. As a result, it should come as no surprise that it’s exclusively compatible with Xbox Series consoles and PC. Pre-orders go live on December 18 and it will fully release on January 15, 2025.
Farming Simulator 25 is available now on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. Console players do take note that despite this being a current-gen only release, for right now the sim is locked to 30 FPS (even on PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X.)
Early adopters of the console edition are hoping a patch is rolled out soon to rectify this, as the preceding FS22 did feature Quality and Performance mode options. Fingers crossed that functionality will be added back in sooner rather than later.
PC players should also be wary that the sim is currently experiencing stuttering issues and graphical oddities. Similar to console players, a patch to fix these teething issues is hoped to be released soon.
