GTA 6 has been delayed and Take-Two has supported the move. After countless rumours that GTA 6 had been internally delayed, what felt like the inevitable was finally confirmed. Rockstar Games shared a statement to tell fans that the release date for GTA 6 has in fact been pushed back to May 26, 2026.
Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO at Take-Two Interactive had this to say following the announcement from Rockstar Games to delay GTA 6:
“We support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a ground-breaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations. While we take the movement of our titles seriously and appreciate the vast and deep global anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI, we remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence. As we continue to release our phenomenal pipeline, we expect to deliver a multi-year period of growth in our business and enhanced value for our shareholders.”
Zelnick has no reason to worry, and rightly so. It’s expected that Take-Two will experience increases in, and record levels of, net bookings in Fiscal 2026 and 2027. Not only will GTA 6 drive up those figures, but yet another example of an anticipated title in the Take-Two family, Borderlands 4 will also release on September 12, 2025.

Despite the disappointment surrounding the delay, the hype for GTA 6 is still there. At the time of writing, its record-breaking reveal trailer sits at 251 million views. Since GTA 5 debuted over a decade ago, fans of the series are all too familiar with the waiting game.
