After months of speculation, it has been confirmed by Rockstar Games themselves that GTA 6 is now delayed until next year.
When Rockstar revealed to the world their record-breaking Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer in December 2023, they gave a launch year of 2025, later narrowing it down to Fall 2025. Although there were multiple instances of the team behind the game reaffirming the Fall 2025 release window, circumstances along the way have changed.
A message from Rockstar Games
A statement released on the Rockstar Games website reads:
“Hi everyone,
Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.
We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.
With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.
We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.”

It’s bad news for players who were hoping to transition into a new era of Grand Theft Auto in the latter months of this year. With that said, we can now expect other games to be announced and released towards the end of the year. Publishers who were holding off on shipping their games until GTA 6 set their release date in stone no longer have such huge competition in their way.
