As announced by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2 has entered the pre-production phase. The pre-production stage means that concepts are fully fleshed out, prototypes are built, and developers are spread across the project.
Cyberpunk 2077 went from one of the worst modern game releases of all time to an incredible success. At launch, the game was plagued with bugs and glitches, while being practically unplayable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. CD Projekt Red managed to turn around Cyberpunk 2077’s reputation through various patches.
The story continues in Cyberpunk 2
CD Projekt Red announced that Project Orion, now referred to as Cyberpunk 2, is officially entering pre-production. This was first announced in the company’s latest financial report, while the highlights were posted on the official CD Projekt Red X account after the fact. According to CDPR, Cyberpunk 2’s conceptual phase is done and the upcoming sequel has moved into the next part of game development.
CDPR also shared the number of developers working on each of their projects. By the end of February 2025, there were 84 developers working on Cyberpunk 2, with that number increasing to 96 by the end of April of 2025. The majority of developers are working on The Witcher 4, with 422 developers allocated to that team as of April 30, 2025.

Despite the pre-production stage being a notable milestone for the game, it still means the title is in its early days. Fans may not see anything official from the world of Cyberpunk 2 anytime soon. That’s not to say that leaks won’t come out about what CDPR could have up their sleeves for the highly anticipated sequel.
