During the special Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo spent a few minutes showing off its new social functionality—GameChat.
This Discord-like application will allow users to speak freely throughout their gameplay session, including when using the system in docked mode at a distance.
Voice chat, voice tuned
The new ‘C’ button on the right Joy-Con 2 is what activates GameChat.
This new feature will make use of a built-in microphone that’s located at the top of the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Nintendo has made use of software optimization to allow for on-the-fly refinements to the user’s voice, compensating when the environment becomes nosier. The user’s voice will remain clear no matter what, even at a distance.
Combined with its audio features, GameChat also allows users to connect together with live screen sharing, and even support for the new Nintendo Switch Camera accessory.

This webcam like device allows users to not only participate in video chat sessions, but also has gameplay functionality in supported games.
GameChat will be a part of a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Nintnedo Switch 2 will launch on June 5.
