Prepare to activate your inner child, as the Thomas & Friends DLC pack rolls into the station of Train Sim World 5. This new paid content for the sim is entirely based on the characters and vistas of the hit children’s series, Thomas the Tank Engine. It features the titular character, along with a few other recognisable engines from the series as they venture through a virtual rendition of the real-life line of England’s West Somerset Railway.
“All aboard!”
This DLC is particularly unique, not only due to it being based on a licensed property, but also because it’s an entirely narrative-driven experience.
Following in the footsteps of the show, players will embark on an evolving journey as Thomas explores the West Somerset Railway with his trusty carriages, Annie and Clarabel.
Thomas’ controls have been intuitively tuned for easy playability, allowing any simmer inexperienced or not to get in his cab and enjoy the adventure.
Joining the playable roster is the devious Diesel, who keeps up with his mischievous ways in this adventure to make trouble for Thomas. Players should also have an easy time piloting him, though he’s a little slower than that of Thomas.
Other notable characters include none other than the revered Sir Topham Hatt, who continues his key role as Director of the Railway. He joins Thomas along for the ride as an overseer, following an invitation from his long-time friend Mr. Peters.
When not uncovering all the tales of Somerset, players are able to hop into Free Roam mode and enjoy the line and characters to their hearts content. Indeed, this is quite the DLC package that sells itself as a treat to fans of the series.
