REPO is the latest co-op indie horror hit which sees you and your friends extract valuable objects in a world full of monsters. The team over at Semiwork continue to update the game to add more content and address community feedback. Overcharge is the latest mechanic to join REPO and it will change the way you treat the monsters.
In a YouTube video uploaded to the official Semiwork channel, the explosive mechanic is shown off, along with an explanation as to why Overcharge has been implemented in the first place.
Even more danger
The developers point out that they have noticed that through strength upgrades, players are essentially able to bully enemies and throw them around with their beams, making the enemy less frightful and the game less challenging. Instead of nerfing upgrades or bumping up the strength of enemies, a new mechanic has stepped in to resolve this.
The feature is known as Overcharge and when you grab an enemy, there will now be a metre on the top left of your screen that will show you how close your beam is to Overcharging. When the metre reaches 100, you will explode and it will be down to your team mates to revive you. The Overcharge metre is slowed down when more than one player is using their beam on the same enemy at one time.

Ultimately, this adds an extra layer of tactical gameplay, prompting you to think more carefully about when you should throw an enemy to its death. In the late game in particular, it may feel as if the difficulty is higher, since you can no longer have your way with enemies in the same way when fully upgraded.
It’s important to note that the Overcharge mechanic does not apply when you are carrying other objects as it only kicks in when enemies are picked up.
