Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Marketplace is live

Four months after the sim’s launch, the in-game Marketplace for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is finally live for all players. This integral feature has been much anticipated, as it not only offers the opportunity for users to purchase new add-ons, but also grants access to compatible past purchases from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.

With the launch of the Marketplace comes a curious new virtual currency called Simverse Coins, which Asobo hasn’t spoken of until now.

Retail therapy

The new Simverse Coins are the official currency of the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Marketplace. These can be purchased either in the Marketplace itself or physically via retailers. However, retail purchases can only be used with the Microsoft Store edition of the sim, not the Steam version.

Returning customers from MSFS 2020 will be able to start taking control of their individual Libraries immediately. Microsoft-branded content being carried over from MSFS 2020 is enabled by default, but all other content will need to be enabled manually via the ‘My Library’ submenu that’s embedded in the Marketplace.

Three distinct tags have been created to show the status of a specific piece of backward-compatible content:

  • “Not Creator Approved” – The Creator has deemed the add-on incompatible or has not yet tested it.
  • “Not Available” – You own this content in MSFS 2020 but it has not yet been ported to MSFS 2024.
  • “No Tag” – Indicates that the Creator has signed off that the item is compatible with MSFS 2024.

Prior to the launch of MSFS 2024, Asobo did tout that the conversion process from the preceding sim would be fairly straightforward. Since launch, add-ons have gradually come online in terms of compatibility, but there are still some products both large and small that are awaiting a conversion.

For products that have been upgraded to take full advantage of MSFS 2024’s native features, Creators have the option to either charge for it or allow users to upgrade for free; the product page shows which applies.

The ability to rent and gift products from the Marketplace is not yet ready. Asobo expects to roll out this functionality alongside Sim Update 2 in April, 2025.
