Arrowhead Studios confirm their involvement in Helldivers film

At CES 2025, PlayStation announced that Helldivers will be made into a film. The second instalment of the squad-based shooter recently took home Best Ongoing Game and Best Multiplayer Game at The Game Awards 2024. Off the back of those accolades, PlayStation are hoping to make Helldivers a hit among moviegoers, transforming the war-torn galaxy into an action-packed viewing experience.

When a game is converted into a film, it is important to fans that the game and its lore remains accurate across the new piece of media. To achieve that, this usually involves the developers being involved in the production of the film one way or another.

Arrowhead Studios will assist in the Helldivers film adaptation

Arrowhead Studios CCO, Johan Pilestedt, posted an image of his team on X, where a fan commented “can you confirm if Arrowhead will be involved with the production of the Helldivers movie to ensure the films stays faithful to the games?”

Pilestedt responded, “the short answer is yes. The long answer is that we’ll see.” Pilestedt highlighted the fact that Arrowhead Studios are game developers and not “Hollywood people,” who “don’t know what it takes to make a movie.” However, he seems happy enough to have minimal involvement and due to limited film knowledge, Pilestedt believes Arrowhead Studios “shouldn’t have final say.”

PlayStation Productions are behind the upcoming Helldivers film, but this isn’t all that Sony are planning to bring to the big screen. A Horizon Zero Dawn film adaptation is under development at Columbia Pictures, (who also produced the Uncharted film) alongside PlayStation Productions.

It will likely be a long time before we get any official details on the Helldivers film, but the involvement of Arrowhead Studios is a step in the right direction.
