The Plucky Squire is a charming indie game that combines 2D and 3D realms in side-scrolling fashion. It is getting the recognition it deserves by being nominated at The Game Awards 2024 for Best Family Game and Best Debut Indie. A new update has gone live, adapting the gameplay to make it suit even more players.
The developers note that after sifting through feedback, one of the points that came up was concerns about the pacing being too slow for some players. The solution to that is a Streamlined mode which will allow those embarking on Jot’s adventure to turn the pages more efficiently.
No time to waste
Streamlined mode is intended for players who want less guidance and more action at a quicker pace. When you begin playing The Plucky Squire, you can now choose between a Standard and Streamlined mode. The Streamlined option offers snappier dialogue, fewer camera events, added dialogue portraits for major characters, and increased Save History slots.
With that being said, huge chunks of content haven’t been taken away. The game has been trimmed down for, as the name suggests, concise dialogue and scenes. If you want the full experience, you can still select the Standard mode, featuring more dialogue and guidance.
Apart from the shiny new Streamlined option, a small, but important set of bug fixes have been made. A fix has rolled out for the bottom half of Alowynia card being blacked out, a repair has been made to the soft lock in credits, and various collision issues have been ironed out.
