Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 released just a week ago, but things haven’t been going quite as expected. After a massive launch day fumble, players have been gradually forming opinions of the actual title, which remain mixed.
Regular development updates from Asobo have been posted throughout the past week, addressing various issues and confirming that the team is working on the backend trying to fix them. Jorg Neumann, Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, has posted yet another update. Here, he confirms that two big patches will be released in the coming weeks.
Wrangling in the issues
Neumann’s update outlines the release plan for the next two patches. One will be arriving sometime during “the week of December 2nd,” and the other will arrive at some point during the “week of December 9th.” Asobo likely isn’t committing to specific dates at this time to avoid having to report a delay.
Another interesting tidbit from the update relates to MSFS 2020 content being ported over to the MSFS 2024 Marketplace. According to Neumann, the majority of content has been moved over. However, there have been community reports indicating that some add-ons are causing significant issues, such as preventing players from accessing the simulator. Consequently, the developers have opted to deactivate everything but aircraft from MSFS 2020 for the time being until a fix is discovered.
The second patch (coming the week of December 9th) will allow players to finally disable/enable content. A ‘safe boot’ option that deactivates all add-ons will also be added; such a feature already exists in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and deploys after a significant crash-to-desktop.
The community will have the ability to catch up with Neumann and other Asobo heads sometime next week during the developer Q&A livestream. There, the team will go into more detail about the current work being done to spruce up Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
