When it comes to video game characters, Sackboy is one of the most recognisable. As LittleBigPlanet 3 nears its tenth anniversary, a celebration isn’t exactly on the cards. In a matter of weeks, LittleBigPlanet 3 will be permanently delisted from the PlayStation store.
Just six months ago, it was announced that the LittleBigPlanet 3 online servers were being taken offline indefinitely. Although offline features are still playable, an array of user-generated content that was shared by fellow fans was lost.
Another one bites the dust
In a statement released by the official LittleBigPlanet 3 X account, Sumo Digital reveal that “after 10 years of playing, creating and sharing content in LittleBigPlanet 3, the game and our entire range of LittleBigPlanet DLC will be removed from the PlayStation store on October 31, 2024.” This means that the digital version of the game will no longer be available to purchase.
Players who own the game and any of its DLCs will still be able to access the content after it is delisted. If the game has been on your wishlist or you have a DLC missing from your collection, it’s your last chance to make your purchases.
Those who have downloaded LittleBigPlanet 3 through PlayStation Plus will still be able to play the game after it has been delisted.
The collection continues to grow of games that are becoming delisted. Not enough progress has been made towards game preservation, meaning more games will simply get lost to time. As titles get older, technology advances, and servers require resources to be kept in working order, it’s easy for dated games to get left behind.
