Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is in its later days at this point, but Asobo is still committed to providing updates. The newest free update has just arrived, Aircraft & Avionics Update 3.
This new Microsoft Flight Simulator update provides enhancements and bug fixes to three major default aircraft, along with smaller updates to other aircraft in the sim.
Squashing bugs and tightening bolts
The Airbus A320neo V2 from iniBuilds, the Airbus A310-300 from iniBuilds, and the Pilatus PC-6 Porter from Asobo are the primary targets for this new update for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. Like past AAU releases, this third edition squashes big bugs and brings notable enhancements to each of the targeted aircraft.
A full set of release notes has not yet been revealed but will be rolled out later on today. The full update itself is a little over 2GB and is a mandatory update for all players that will be made available when launching the sim.
Some users have reported that this update is causing a Crash to Desktop. Asobo’s official solution to this issue as of now is to remove the AIRAC cycle from Navigraph, which is a core part of the sim.
Hopefully, a smoother solution will soon be identified; it appears the team is actively working on finding one.
Beyond the horizon
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is now mere weeks away from being released. Asobo has kicked up the PR for the new project, as just a few days ago a slew of new details were revealed, alongside new footage and the opening of pre-orders across both the Microsoft Store and Steam.
Yet, work on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is clearly continuing. Not just from Asobo, but other studios as well are continuing to release their projects for the existing sim; all of which are expected to be fully compatible with the new sim. One such recent release is the new graphical utility REX Atmos. Check out our thoughts on it.
