The latest Fortnite update has elevated the stakes in Chapter 5 Season 4 with a Day of Doom limited-time mode, the introduction of fresh Marvel weapons, and a stylish new suit for Iron Man. Eagle-eyed players may have noticed aim assist changes following the Fortnite v31.20 update.
An argument as old as time in gaming is the battle between controller and keyboard and mouse players in regards to aim assist. Fortnite is aiming to close the gap between controller and keyboard and mouse users with what is being dubbed as human-like aim assist.
What are human-like aim assist changes in Fortnite?
On PC, console, and even mobile, the update has introduced human-like aim assist for controller players, resembling human reaction time while trying to better match how unassisted keyboard and mouse players track moving targets. The objective of human-like aim assist is for greater balancing for controller players of all skill levels.
The main developer behind human-like aim assist in Fortnite, Jibb Smart, provided further insight into the adjustments via a thread on X. Jibb Smart says “the goal of human-like aim assist is to remove the superhuman factor from aim assist.” Ultimately, this doesn’t make aim assist better or worse, but it makes it more realistic and balances the playing field.
According to Jibb Smart, “human-like aim assist is much less noticeable even though it does just as much work.” It’s still early days, however, and Epic Games will continue to monitor and tune aim assist in Fortnite.
Who knows, if this kind of aim assist is successful, perhaps other shooters will adopt this feature in the future.
