Warzone fans got their first look at the next Resurgence map at the recent Call of Duty Next showcase. The upcoming map goes by the name of Area 99 and it’s described as “the birthplace of Nuketown.” As we gear up for the Area 99 Warzone release date, familiarise yourself with each corner of the map.
Developed by Treyarch in collaboration with Raven Software, Area 99 is inspired by the Nuketown map. Nuketown has become a staple of the Call of Duty franchise, particularly the Black Ops series.
The deserted Area 99 will become populated once again when the map is added to Warzone in Season 1. A release date is yet to be confirmed, but if we take a look at previous years, Season 1 usually arrives in December.
Warzone Area 99 overview
Area 99 is made up of ten points of interest which are:
- Warehouse
- Manufacturing
- Loading Bay
- Pods
- Nuketown Shipping
- Reactor
- Bunker
- Cooling Towers
- Test Site
- Mannequin Assembly
The entirety of this map will be familiar to Nuketown fans, although the combat takes place on a much larger scale. The Mannequin Assembly, for example, has been overproducing parts of the mannequins that feature on the various Nuketown multiplayer maps over the years. As for Warehouse and Manufacturing, that’s where key component of Nuketown are produced. Included is Nuketown houses, and of course, the iconic “Welcome to Nuketown” sign.
For those who want to get straight into the action, the Reactor is likely to be the hot drop. Area 99 was abandoned in March 1962 and the Reactor is the heart of the location, but it has been leaking radiation for three decades. This part of the map focuses on vertical gameplay from the core chamber to the outdoor environment.
An Area 99 flythrough trailer shows off the points of interest you’ll drop into.
