Another year brings with it another addition to Dovetail’s Train Sim World series in the form of the newly-announced Train Sim World 5. The announcement came at Gamescom 2024, where it was revealed that Train Sim World 5 will feature a slew of new routes and locomotives for players to enjoy, including routes across the globe such as in Germany, Switzerland, the UK, the USA, and more.
Track time
Train Sim World 5 introduces more challenges and fresh roles to master across three iconic new routes in particular. This includes the West Coast Main Line, which runs from London Euston to Milton Keynes in the UK. Here, players will operate the Class 350 locomotive which pulls a commuter train between the two cities.
In Germany, there’s the Kinzigtalbahn. It’s operated by the high-speed DB BR 411 ICE-T commuter train, as well as other, slower locos that run alternate passenger services and freight operations. This line runs from Frankfurt to Fulda.
Finally, over on the West Coast of the United States is the San Bernadino line which runs between Los Angeles and San Bernadino, California. This line will have players take control of the F125 and MP36 commuter locos as they shuttle passengers between these two major Californian metros.

Beyond the new gameplay content, players also get to enjoy graphical and UI improvements. Fast Travel has been implemented for the first time in the series and virtual photographers will benefit from the revamped Photo Mode.
In addition to just being able to pilot the trains, players can also assume the role of a Conductor and check tickets, remove luggage, and clear the train for departure. Content from past entries can also be imported into Train Sim World 5, allowing players to keep their existing purchases and benefit from the game’s tweaks.
Following the announcement, Dovetail Games has released an incredibly dense roadmap in relation to the first year of content for Train Sim World 5. In short, quite a few new routes are coming along with new locomotives. The full breakdown of all the new editions and explanation of various questions have been compiled in a handy official FAQ.
Train Sim World 5 will take to the tracks on September 17 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
