Straight out of Gamescom 2024 is the pre-teased new game mode for Forza Horizon 5, which we now know officially as Hide and Seek.
This new game mode is a 5-on-1 online match where players will compete to outwit and out move each other as they race and chase each other in the car equivalent of cat and mouse.
Stealth wheels
Hide and Seek will randomly assign six players different roles when the match starts; five will be the Seekers and one will be the Hider.
The job of the Hider is to slink away to a set location within a set amount of time and avoid detection by the Seekers while doing so. As the Hider tries to escape stealthily, Seekers will be able to gather points; if enough is collected, they have a chance to win.
How this works is that Seekers can try to find and stay close to the Hider. By doing so, the Seeker’s Detection Meter will begin to fill; a full meter results in the Seekers winning.
Between the Hiders and Seekers, a selection of cars will be randomly assigned to each player. Each of these rides will be stripped down to their bone stock variants; this includes a lack of tunes and liveries. For the Hider, this helps them to remain inconspicuous but also makes the Seekers more easily identifiable.
Power plays
Beyond simple strategy between aversion and detection, each side will also have their fair share of power-ups to add a level of randomness to the formula. Seekers will have access to a Radar that gives them a general idea of the Hider’s location. If they find the Hider, they can use the Ping ability to lock-on and display the location of the Hider on the minimap for 20 seconds. This gives the Seeker team a chance to converge on the Hider.
To counter the efforts of the Seeker team, the Hider can activate the Chase Breaker ability that causes all Seekers to come to a complete stop and jam their Radar for 20 seconds. The Hider’s car will also be ghosted for this duration, allowing them to pass through smashable objects and become invisible to the Seekers.
As powerful as these abilities are, players will need to use them sparingly as they each have a cooldown period to make things fair.
Moving up the ranks
Of course, this is Forza Horizon, so this new game mode most certainly comes with some bounty to boot. A new progression track for Hide and Seek will be available to fill, and players will earn XP exclusively for this mode.
Frequent playthroughs will result in earning a play streak, granting bonus XP with each completed match which helps the player to level up even faster. New in-game Accolades and Xbox Achievements will be available to collect, too.
Hide and Seek will be rolled out for free alongside the new Hidden Horizons series update on September 10 for all platforms that Forza Horizon 5 is on.
