The time-management and RPG sim market is extremely crowded, but Esports History is preparing to leave its own stamp on the genre by bringing a new perspective to the table. The game sees you go from zero to hero, fighting bosses, spawning new rivalries, and competing for glory in the esports scene.

We had the opportunity to speak with Quantum Gear Studios, the team behind Esports History. From our interview, you can learn more about the game and why it should be on your radar. If you want hands-on experience with Esports History, you can play the demo now or wait for the upcoming Esports History: Prologue, a free taste of the full release.

GameScout: Tell us more about Quantum Gear Studios and what existing esports you like!

Quantum Gear Studios: Quantum Gear Studios is a team of enthusiasts who came together to create their first game. Initially, two people were on the team, but as development progressed, the team expanded to 5 people. In the beginning of development, we had to learn everything from scratch, but as time went on we started hiring experienced people and became professionals ourselves.

We love esports, some of us have played at a semi-professional level and participated in real tournaments. Our favourite esports games are Counter-Strike, Dota 2 and League Of Legends. At the same time, we are also close to retro esports games such as StarCraft, Quake and Warcraft.

GameScout: How long has Esports History been in development for and can you update us on where you are in the development process right now?

Quantum Gear Studios: Esports History has been in development for over 4 years. Now we are at the final stage of development, we are polishing the game, localising and adjusting the game balance. All mechanics and acts of the game are already implemented.

GameScout: What other games were you inspired by and what kind of player do you think will be interested in Esports History?

Quantum Gear Studios: Our biggest inspirations are Punch Club and Game Dev Tycoon, and of course the games that were at the beginning of esports. We think that players who like time-management and isomeric RPGs will be interested in the gameplay of the game. Our setting should interest players who enjoy esports games and people who once wanted to become professional esports players. Our game shows the way into cybersports from the first-person perspective, this approach is almost unheard of in similar games.

GameScout: How much control will you be able to have over the gameplay during tournaments? From the demo, we’ve seen that you can select a weapon and skill. Will players be able to make upgrades, for example?

Quantum Gear Studios: In the future, during tournaments a manual and automatic mode will be available. In manual mode, the player will be able to have full control over characters or units.

For example, in RTS games you can choose the type of units to build and control the movements and attacks on the map, as well as in FPS games the player will be able to fully control all the movements and actions of characters. Of course manual mode is quite challenging for the player, so we left the possibility to play in the usual automatic mode.

GameScout: In the full version of Esports History, how many esports can you compete in?

Quantum Gear Studios: The full version of the game will have 6 mini-games, for the remaining acts, games inspired by Counter-Strike and Warcraft 3 will be added. These mini-games will be much deeper than the previous ones.

GameScout: How important will monitoring your stress and energy levels be? Will there be other ways to manage it other than through sleep and playing video games?

Quantum Gear Studios: In the latest version of the game there is a new stress system, which makes this parameter very important. Now during the tournament, a high stress player can get debuffs on damage and defence, and the higher will be the stress the more serious the debuffs. It’s extremely important to monitor your stress before tournaments. In addition, the new talent system allows you to influence your opponent’s stress: by annoying the enemy!

Stress can be relieved by attending events (for example, the cinema.) The player will also have the opportunity to get a pet and interaction with it will reduce the character’s stress.

GameScout: How far will character customisation go?

Quantum Gear Studios: All character customisation comes down to upgrading his stats and talents in the way you choose, as well as selecting his name.

GameScout: At the end of the demo, we see your character at an esports world championship. Will your character get to play at venues in front of fans?

Quantum Gear Studios: The Esports History plot plans to show the main character’s journey in several parts of the game. In Esports History 1, his journey ends with joining a professional team. The continuation of this story will be in the next part of the game.

GameScout: What can players expect from the Esports History: Prologue?

Quantum Gear Studios: In the prologue, players will be able to see a new version of the demo, new mechanics of character progression, a new stress system, and a new talent system.

We also rewrote the dialogues and completely redesigned the interface, and much more. In simple terms, the prologue is an updated demo that is fully consistent with the full game. At the moment, the demo is very outdated.
