One of the most unforgettable Nintendo games of 2023 was undoubtedly The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. So much so that it received a nomination for 2023’s Game of the Year award. Tears of the Kingdom continues to have an impact, prompting the developers to commemorate the anniversary.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom just surpassed its first anniversary and Japanese magazine, Nintendo Dream, spoke with members of the team to mark the occasion.

Producer, Eiji Aonuma recalls the heart-warming moment he heard about a child who said “I played Tears of the Kingdom for over 1,000 hours,” and the mother smiled in response, saying, “I didn’t know about that!” Aonuma was “shocked that one could play a single game that much, but I was also surprised that the mother accepted that.”
The heart of his message recognises that gamers “happily tell me about how they played this game for many hours” and Aonuma hopes to use the “experience from this title to create more games that everyone can enjoy in the future”
As for Hidemaro Fujibayashi, he reflects on his favourite features of the game and watching the world enjoy Tears of the Kingdom, “which has brought joy to the staff as a whole.” He continues, “to have our game be played so much is an irreplaceable source of motivation to us development staff. Thank you very much.”
Fujibayashi signs off by emphasising the game’s replayability, “what I want to say now that a year has passed is that just like the predecessor, Breath of The Wild, this game’s story is structured so that the truth is gradually unravelled as you play, leading to surprising moments that make you go, “So that’s how it was.”
