As we near the end of the Call of Duty League’s (CDL) Modern Warfare 3 season, talk surrounding the next season begins to arise. This year, Cloud9 are starting the rumour mill, with an alleged interest in joining the Call of Duty League.
Already, Cloud9 have rosters in a variety of competitive titles. From League of Legends, to Halo, and Valorant, just to name a few. If new details have some truth to them, the team in blue could be preparing to expand their portfolio.

According to sources at Sheep Esports, Cloud9 are in the process of entering a partnership with the New York Subliners. Sheep Esports say that the organisation plans to “enable Cloud9 to increase its presence at the Esports World Cup by participating in the Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 tournament.”
Reportedly, the partnership will turn into ownership, as “in a second phase, a merger acquisition of NYXL, owned by Sterling VC (Sterling Equities,) owner of the New York Mets in MLB, is expected to follow.”
In the past, Cloud9 has expressed interest to return to Call of Duty esports. If the deal goes ahead, this will be the first time Cloud9 has been in CoD esports since 2017, before the launch of the CDL franchised league.
It’s unknown if the merger will result in a name or location change for the New York Subliners. This has been the case for past acquisitions, with the London Royal Ravens becoming the Carolina Royal Ravens, and Paris Legion relocating to be the Vegas Legion, for example.
