If Overwatch 2 was a popularity contest, Mercy would feature on the top of the list. At the beginning of last year, Mercy received a rework to their passive ability, but the team haven’t shown much love to this particular hero since then. However, that could change and Mercy may be about to feature in a future Overwatch 2 update for all the right reasons.
When it comes to support heroes, Mercy has all the correct ingredients to become one of the best options in the game. If you’re a Mercy main, this news is likely music to your ears.
Showing Mercy
In a Reddit AMA, a fan asked whether or not Mercy will receive any changes or buffs. Lead Gameplay Designer at Blizzard, Alec Dawson, expressed an interest in making some tweaks to the hero.
Dawson states, “I think we are more happy in the 20% DPS Passive world than the 15% (it cuts through a lot better, helps mitigate the healing more effectively) so Mercy is more worth a look when that world is permanent.” He continues, “there are some questions of how far we can push her movement,” recognising that this is one of the most requested changes.
According to the development team, “Mercy is still a top-picked 3/4 Support,” especially on console up to GM/Top 500 and “remains above average at the highest ranks.” Despite this, adjustments haven’t been ruled out, including buffs.
It’s unknown if and when Mercy will go under the knife. Overwatch 2 Season 11 is expected to roll out in June, so perhaps Mercy will appear in the long list of updates which the upcoming season is expected to bring.
