Sackboy is an iconic video game character that most gamers know and love. LittleBigPlanet 3 in particular sold 5,542,000 million units as of February 2022. Sadly, it’s the end of an era for Sumo Digital’s game, as it has been confirmed that the LittleBigPlanet 3 online servers are permanently closed.
At the beginning of this year, the LittleBigPlanet 3 servers were taken offline which was expected to be a temporary move in order to fix a technical issue. Plans have now changed, and not for the better.
LittleBigPlanet 3 servers are offline for good
The official LittleBigPlanet X account released a statement informing players of the decision to pull the plug on the servers.
“Due to ongoing technical issues which resulted in the LittleBigPlanet 3 servers for PS4 being taken offline temporarily in January 2024, the decision has been made to keep the servers offline indefinitely.”
As a result, all online functions “including access to other players’ creations for LittleBigPlanet 3 are no longer available.”
Content you’ve created yourself and stored locally on your PlayStation 4 will remain available for you to use. Any new user generated content you make can be played on your console, but not shared with others.
The developers confirm that “offline features such as the campaign will remain playable,” but this marks the end of the game’s online services. Unless saved locally, a whole host of content has been lost which was once a key aspect of LittleBigPlanet 3.
The list continues to grow of games that are becoming delisted or inaccessible. As titles get older, technology advances, and servers require resources to be kept in working order, various games are left behind. Since LittleBigPlanet 3 released almost 10 years ago, that’s a lot of content that’ll never be playable again.
