Not much time has passed since the release of the West Balkans map expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2, and yet, like clockwork, SCS has now officially shined the light on the next destination: the ancient land of Greece.
The scenery designers at the studio have already been putting some serious work into the project, as SCS has hit the ground running with a reveal of some early scenes from the upcoming map expansion.
To the Aegean Sea we go
Greece is a country that needs almost no introduction. Home to nearly 10.5 million people, the Hellenic Republic, as it is officially known, rests at the southern tip of the Balkan peninsula. This region, as brought out by prior expansions of Euro Truck Simulator 2, lays east of Italy and comprises of several countries, coming to an end with Greece, which sits with the Mediterranean Sea to the south and the Aegean Sea to the east.
The new DLC will contain roads that run through “the captivating landscapes of inland Greece,” and will also encompass some of Greece’s islands. Overall, the DLC will have “approximately 14 cities waiting to be discovered.” The iconic beauty of its villages, landmarks, and charming scenery will all be viewable when it comes to Euro Truck Simulator 2.
In addition to the early images shown here, SCS has already shared a first look at what the team has been working on by means of an early teaser:
A shorter journey to the finish line?
Euro Truck Simulator 2 fans had to wait a hefty two years between the release of the West Balkans expansion and its predecessor, the Iberia expansion. It’s only fitting to wonder if it’ll be a while before the virtual roads of Greece will open for exploration. As it turns out, the wait ahead appears to be much shorter.
In its announcement post, the team has reported good news that this particular expansion is “shaking things up by embracing a faster pre-production phase. This fills the development process with a boost of speed and excitement.”
While an actual release date/release window has not been mentioned, it does seem at least feasible that perhaps by the end of 2024, it’ll be wrapped up and ready to go. Of course, time will tell.
Meanwhile, there’s (not surprisingly) still no further updates on the Heart of Russia expansion that pre-dates the making of the West Balkans DLC.
That was indefinitely delayed back in 2022 following the beginning of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. There’s no telling if that’ll be released before the Greece expansion, so for now, we have the home of Athens to look forward to as the next stop in the Euro Truck Simulator 2 journey.
