It’s been a long time coming, but Euro Truck Simulator 2 is finally seeing the release of its West Balkans map expansion—and it’s just a few days away.
SCS Software has confirmed that the West Balkans DLC will hit Steam on October 19, bringing with it the beautiful roads and settlements of an all-new region.
Backpacking in the Balkans
The Balkans is a lesser-known (and lesser populated) portion of Europe, sitting to the east of Italy and the southwest of Ukraine. Officially, the West Balkans in particular consist of Albania, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia.
These small countries all share a lot of regional and cultural similarities, such as the fact that the region’s name is derived from the nearby Balkan Mountain range.
This region is known for having quaint, winsome countryside and beautifully rustic historical cities that are rich in heritage. As is always the case, SCS has done a lot of homework to ensure that the look and feel of the region has been properly captured and virtually crafted in the world of Euro Truck Simulator 2.
While the team has shared a lot of its work throughout the project’s development, now it’s shared a proper preview of the release build in a stunning new trailer:
The West Balkans map expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2 has truly been long-awaited by the sim’s community.
The preceding DLC, the Iberia map expansion, launched all the way back in Spring 2021. It was supposed to have been followed up by the comprehensive Heart of Russia expansion. However, that was indefinitely delayed back in May 2022, following on-going real-world conflict in Ukraine. Therefore, the incoming arrival of the West Balkans DLC has caused great praise to erupt from the sim’s community.
While a price for the West Balkans DLC has not yet been revealed, the price of other large map expansions for Euro Truck Simulator 2 has been $17.99 USD. We can expect the same to be true for this latest release.
