The long-awaited skateboarding add-on is finally making its way into Riders Republic with Season 8, along with its new area: The Deck.
In addition to this big new content drop, Riders Republic also finally gains a replay mode and various new challenges are primed and ready to go throughout the new season.
Switching up the Republic
Access to the skate add-on actually doesn’t kick off until September 27 (9AM EDT,) where then it can either be purchased via the in-game store using Republic Credits (which must be purchased with real money) or as a standalone pack either bundled with the game, or on its own.
As for the patch notes that have been supplied with the new Season 8 update, here are a few highlights.
Replay Mode allows players to manipulate time and capture their riders’ movements at specific angles, all in the name of offering the ability to record the perfect clip. This will benefit both hobbyist gamer filmmakers and photographers alike. The new feature is available now.
Changes have been made to both the control inputs (“walk” and “backtrack” have been swapped, but can be changed back.) Tricks are also affected by changes, as spamming the same trick won’t net you anything towards your combo score. On the topic of tricks, visiting the Tricks Academy will now allow you to participate in one lesson immediately after the other for Sports with multiple lessons.
The User-Generated Content menu has also been updated. Here, the devs tease “big changes are coming” and to prepare for that, the menu has updated with the new Skate and Recommended Content tabs, “which will be filled based on the creations you play.”
Tricks and kickflips
Flipping the focus back to the new Skate add-on content, while the actual add-on itself is paid-content, its main new locale, The Deck, is part of the Season 8 update. Therefore, anyone can access it, particularly players who own the BMX add-on and they’ll be able to traverse the new scene, similarly to skateboard players.
That said, if you want to access all the new activities around The Deck, you’ll definitely need the skate add-on.
If you’re on the fence about it, or simply want to take it for a test drive, the new skateboards can actually be trialled via a demo or through the weekly activities. This includes Live Events and Live Areas that will allow all players to use the skateboard for free. This is similar to what’s been done with the Hoverboard add-on since its release a few months ago.
By purchasing the Skate add-on outright, you’ll gain unlimited access to skateboards, along with the new Skate Career which contains 15 events, 4 stunts and 3 new sponsors: Pizza, Mini Logo and Powell Peralta. Riders Republic can be purchased either by itself or with the Skate add-on over on the game’s official website.
