Only Up gained a large player base when it went viral on TikTok for its challenging obstacles and rather rage inducing nature. The aim of the game is to make it to the top of an obstacle course, but if you fall, you lose some, or possibly even all of your progress. Despite its success, the developer has surprisingly decide to remove Only Up from Steam.
On the Only Up Steam community page, the solo developer of the 3D platformer shared a post, announcing their decision to take the game down from the Steam store. The reasoning behind this move is down to the fact that the game put the developer under “a lot of stress” and they want to put it behind them.
The only way is up
The mind behind Only Up reveals that they’re working on a new indie game, with the working title Kith. Their next entry will be nothing like Only Up and instead, it’ll be a “new experience and a new concept with realism, a completely different genre and setting, and the emphasis is on cinematography.” They also say that they would like the new game to be developed by a small team, rather than being another solo project.
Only Up has faced its fair share of controversies since it launched back in May. The game has been removed from Steam before for including NFTs (which Steam has a firm policy against) and allegedly stealing assets from other titles.
If you already own Only Up, you can still play it via your Steam library. In fact, some collision fixes and minor optimisations have recently been deployed. However, no new purchases can be made from this point onwards.
