Just days ago, Donald Mustard announced his retirement as Chief Creative Officer at Epic, after 25 years in the games industry. He posted a long message on X (formerly Twitter,) saying farewell to his colleagues and Fortnite fans. As Mustard was flooded with well-wishes, we were also left speculating about who could take his place.
Epic Games has now found a new Chief Creative Officer and we have gone from one industry veteran to another.
Charlie Wen becomes the new Fortnite boss
Wen himself shared the news via LinkedIn, announcing:
“I’m excited to share that I embarked on a new adventure as Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of Epic Games.
It’s an incredible honor to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the industry and contribute my experience to an organization dedicated to driving innovation in entertainment and technology.”
He also promised that the journey ahead will be “truly epic.”
In the video games industry, Wen is best known for creating Kratos for the first God of War game. Elsewhere, he has led Marvel Studios’ Visual Development, working on hit films such as Iron Man and Thor.
To say the least, the game has been on quite a journey since it launched back in 2017. As we enter a brand new era of Fortnite under Charlie Wen, it’ll be interesting to see what he has in store for the battle royale. One thing is for certain, Fortnite fans are in good hands.
