Yet another announcement coming out of the Gamescom 2023 deluge is that of Dovetail Games’ Train Sim World 4 and its release date.

The Unreal Engine-powered sim brings with it an all-new release, featuring fresh locos to enjoy, new operators, new features, and a variety of other new bits of content, including a powerful PC editor that will give players’ the opportunity to create their own Train Sim World experience from scratch.

New rails, new wheels

Train Sim World 4 introduces a variety of new routes to enjoy, such as the S-Bahn Vorarlebrg: Lindau – Bludenz route that connects Germany to Austria, the first time the latter has been featured in Train Sim World.

This gorgeous route runs through the picture-esque Alps and is handled by local Austrian operator ÖBB.

Another new route will take players to the city of Los, Angeles. The Antelope Valley Line connects LA to Lancaster, another Californian settlement.

These are just a few of the new lines that await players in the sim.

Beyond these new routes, Dovetail Games is also introducing the aforementioned Advanced PC Editor. With this new, powerful tool, players can take the sim by the reigns and use to it “create scenarios, new routes, and new trains” for the PC version of Train Sim World 4. This editor actually happens to be the same toolset the devs themselves use, warning curious tinkerers to have knowledge of Unreal Engine 4 beforehand in order to make use of it.

All versions of the sim will benefit from enhanced visuals, including new windshield effects during adverse weather, as well as an updated OHLE rendering technique.

As Dovetail puts it, the implementation of this new tech helps with “drastically reducing flickering and disappearing OHLE – over head line equipment – at a distance.” For routes that feature locos that use overhead electric lines, this will be of great benefit.

On the console side of things, those that opt for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the sim will benefit from a wealth of improvements, including “a wider range of AI traffic, faster load times, and higher fidelity graphics.” These versions of the sim will also output at a crisp 4K resolution.

All of the new features and various other FAQs are explained in the extremely lengthy rundown that Dovetail has prepared over on its official site.

The Train Sim World 4 release date is September 26 on PC, PS4/PS5, and Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders are live.
