Starfield’s budget and development team size has leaked

We are just days away from the launch of one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, Starfield. According to a recent leak, the budget Bethesda had to develop Starfield was enormous.

Starfield is the first new universe in over 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios, so it’s no wonder that the team are going all out in the development process.

The alleged budget for Starfield is out of this world

The leak was spotted on LinkedIn, where industry veteran, David Reitman made a post aimed at potential clients who may want to get involved in the games industry.

The post reads:

Hold onto your space helmets and grab your popcorn, folks! Bethesda Softworks’ upcoming RPG, Starfield, is like the Marvel Cinematic Universe had a baby with Skyrim, and then sent it to a 25-year-long space camp! The creative vision of Todd Howard, a man who had to wait for technology to catch up for the vision to be realized, is now scheduled for liftoff on September 6! A team of over 500 and a budget of over $200M, this game is promising a universe so vast, you’ll need a space GPS!

If these figures are anything to go by, we can see just how big of a project this game has been. In terms of the budget, the $200 million figure can be compared to The Last Of Us: Part II and Horizon: Forbidden West, which each cost just over $200 million to develop.

According to ZoomInfo, a platform that collects information on company profiles, Bethesda Game Studio has 420 employees, not too far off the number provided by Reitman. It wouldn’t be surprising if extra reinforcements were called to help out with Starfield.

Of course, there’s no way of confirming Starfield’s budget or the size of the development team unless Bethesda or Microsoft release this information themselves.
