It appears that the price point for PlayStation’s upcoming Project Q has been revealed by Microsoft, funnily enough. Thanks to the ongoing dispute between the FTC and Microsoft over the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, we’ve learnt a lot about future games, console exclusivity and much more.
During the May 2023 PlayStation event, Sony unexpectedly unveiled Project Q for the PS5. The handheld device allows you to stream your games to the screen and play on the go. The controls are DualSense-like controller modules that have been stuck to the left and right of the main unit.
Will Project Q break the bank?
In a tweet by the reporter, Stephen Totilo, its pointed out that Microsoft have claimed in court documents that Project Q will release “later this year for under $300.” Although the price range is pretty broad, it does give PlayStation fans an idea of how much Project Q will cost.
As the device is expected to feature the same tech that is used in the PS5, along with the DualSense controls, we wouldn’t be surprised if Project Q’s price will be on the higher end of Microsoft’s claim. However, the games you want to play on the handheld device will first have to be installed on a PS5, therefore the PS5 will process and beam the signal to the Project Q handheld via a Wi-Fi connection. This makes Project Q feel more like an accessory to the already pricey PS5 console, leaving us wondering if it will be worth the hype.
We’ll have to wait for any further details from Sony about Project Q and its official name, release date and price.
