Park Beyond is a Roller Coaster/theme park building game and it has no limits when it comes to creativity. Testing out the closed beta was an amazing experience that really gave more insight into what the developers were trying to create and it is a masterpiece within itself. First things first, the game opens up with some jolly, welcoming music that just really gets players into the vibes of remembering their childhood. Then, you’re given two starting options, to play the story mode or sandbox mode.
When continuing with the story mode, players are greeted with a cutscene of themselves (since we are in first-person) making a paper airplane and then tossing it out the window to fly. The camera then follows the airplane and that begins our journey of building our first roller coaster. The game when gives us instructions on how to build a roller coaster based on following the airplane. It is a really cool idea and its unique way to learn how the game works.
The game holds your hand and details exactly what to do each time the airplane moves forward, so you can continue building the roller coaster. However, there was some difficulty getting the track pieces up onto the high buildings which is part of the tutorial, but with some work, it is possible.
Park Beyond stretches your imagination to new heights
This game really gives off The Sims 4 vibes when it comes to the customisation that it allows players to use. Not only can we enter into a sandbox mode, but it was so much more than expected. Where similar titles don’t take the time to give small details and customisation features, Park Beyond did. First off, we get to pick where we want pathways to go, trees and even flowers. Not only that, but we get to decide what colours we want everything to be. So if you want all your flowers to be the brightest purple and yellow, you can do it!
This is a feature that really stood out about the game and made it even more lovable. The title obviously feeds off expressing your creativity and Park Beyond gives you all the tools you need in order to build your dream theme park builds. This type of customisation is something we haven’t seen in a theme park game for far too long. Also, you’re constantly encouraged to try new things, with the game offering even more possibilities while you play.
A wild ride
There are various different settings that allows for a smooth building experience, such as allowing you to adjust the grid to whatever size suits you. When it comes to placing down an item or an attraction, it is very easy to make it fit into a space to match your vision. The unique enhancements available such as a catapult to send your carts flying definitely wouldn’t meet health and safety standards in the real world. Not only that, but you can try out your own creations for yourself in first-person.
Rather than just being your typical park management game, the campaign draws you into a surprisingly fun narrative. Quickly, you find yourself immersed in theme park history which is certainly different than just placing you in a field and not letting you progress until you’ve made a certain amount of profit or reached a set number of visitors.
Overall, Park Beyond is a really cozy and creative game that encourages people to express themselves as much as possible. After seeing such an amazing game in closed beta, it makes it even more exciting to see the full game release on June 16 on PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
